Your journey to becoming a Registered Nurse in New Zealand starts here!
Are you an Internationally Qualified Nurse (IQN) planning to work in New Zealand?
Starting your nursing career in New Zealand is an exciting opportunity - but understanding the registration process can be challenging.
NZ Healthcare Education is here to guide and support you from application to employment.
NZ Healthcare Education is a specialised provider of professional nursing education and workforce development,
helping internationally qualified nurses successfully transition into the New Zealand healthcare system.

Understanding the New Zealand Registration Process
The Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) has a structured registration pathway for
internationally qualified nurses.
As part of the process, applicants must:
-
Verify their identity, qualifications, registration history, English language proficiency, and professional experience through TruMerit.
-
Complete the Welcome to Aotearoa New Zealand online courses.
-
Meet the Nursing Council's fitness-to-practise requirements.
Depending on the Nursing Council's assessment, some Registered Nurses (and all
internationally qualified Enrolled Nurses) may also be required to complete a competence
assessment, including:
-
An online theoretical examination
-
A two-day orientation programme
-
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
Once all requirements have been successfully completed, eligible nurses can apply for
registration and an Annual Practising Certificate (APC), allowing them to practise as a Registered Nurse in New Zealand.
